Ideas
for Action:
A
New Feature of Facts in Action
What
is Ideas for Action?
This
feature is designed to be a resource for classroom educators, and
for the people who train educators. The Ideas for Action
page will describe activities or resources to accompany the research
presented in that issue of Facts in Action. Ideas for
Action may also provide an explanation of how state and federal
legislation will directly impact the work of the child care workforce,
or outline action steps to take to advocate for or against these
policies.
We
hope that early childhood educators will be able to immediately
implement the practical suggestions presented in Ideas for Action.
We encourage child care directors, trainers, workshop leaders, and
two- and four-year college teachers and professors to share this
feature with the early childhood educators they work with, supervise,
or train.
This
edition of Ideas for Action accompanies the research
article found in 'In the Classroom', which describes how computers
can be used to develop both academic and social skills in preschoolers.
Finding
developmentally appropriate software is one of the challenges early
childhood educators face as they strive to integrate technology
into their classroom. The Boston Museum of Science features an exhibit
of kid-friendly computer software, and also posts a list of recommended
computer programs online.
Here
are some of the programs recommended for children ages five and
younger, along with websites where the software can be purchased:
