President's
FY 2001 Proposed Budget for Child Care
President
Clinton submitted his FY2001 budget plan to Congress on February
7, 2000. The administration is proposing the following allocations
for child care:
- expanding
the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit to make the credit refundable
for nearly two million working parents, to increase the tax credit,
and to provide tax relief for parents who stay at home
- almost
$5 billion in funding for: Head Start, the Child Care and Development
Block Grants to states to help an additional 150,000 children,
the Early Learning Fund to help improve child care quality and
early childhood education for children under five years old, and
other child care programs
- a
$1 billion investment in the 21st Century Community Learning Centers
program to provide universal after-school care for students who
are most in need
- $1.4
billion over ten years in tax credits for businesses building
or expanding child care programs for workers.
