Inside
the State House:
Governor's
FY2001 Budget Recommendations for Child Care
-
The
governor did not propose significant increases in child care funding
in his budget. He did propose minor increases to individual programs
which total about $43 million, including $18 million set aside
for welfare recipients affected by strict new work requirements.
- House
1, in combination with a separately filed proposal, would move
the Department of Educations Community Partnerships for
Children program, as well as all of the Office of Child Care Services
programs under a new Department of Children, Families, and Learning
located under EOHHS. The legislature is not expected to support
this plan.
- Finally,
the governor recommended a significant increase (an additional
$6.4 million) in funding for after-school programs under the Department
of Education.
In
March, 2000, the House Ways and Means Committee will be releasing
their own budget recommendations, followed by the Senates
later this year.
